This Book Will Teach You To Write Better Cover

🚀 The Book in 3 Sentences

The copywriter’s job is to inform ( and sell ), not to impress the reader. Focus on simplicity and being clear. Write as if you talk with a friend. ( In the software development world I would use the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Stupid )

Principles:

  1. Words have huge impact.
  2. People don’t care about you, they care only about themselves.
  3. Write as if you talk to a friend.
  4. Don’t be too wacky.
  5. Be helpful.
  6. Use AIDA.
  7. Create persona.
  8. Style your text.
  9. Come up with 3 flavours subject lines.
  10. A woman’s skirt rule - long enough & short enough.
  11. Keep it simple stupid.
  12. Find your focus, motivation or whatever works for you.
  13. Focus on 1 thing.

🍀 How did it change me?

Do not impress reader, inform them. Every time I write I focus on a style. That’s probably due to writing classes in school. I’ve spent quite a lot of time on grammar, style & wording. Most of that is no longer valid in the copywriting world ( The question is: Is it valid anywhere? According to another great book by Steven Pinker - The Sense Of Style - it is not ).

Writing simple is hard. Most advice talks about simplicity and being clear.

There are 2 helpful techniques I’m going to use:

✍️ My 3 top quotes

Nobody cares about you. They only care about themselves.

Make it helpful. They will listen.

Copy is like a woman’s skirt. It should be long enough to cover essentials, but short enough to keep it interesting.
